The City of Lake Forest Drinking Water Treatment Plant Improvements project was presented a Project of the Year Award through the Chicago Metro Chapter–Lake Branch of the American Public Works Association on January 28 in Libertyville, Illinois. When the City found out its membrane manufacturer would no longer supply the membranes used at the City’s water treatment plant, the City Council knew it needed to respond quickly to continue providing its customers a reliable supply of quality drinking water. With our assistance in reviewing the prequalifications from 11 membrane manufacturers, the City procured a new sole-source supplier of membrane equipment. We designed a completely new membrane system that was installed while operating the existing facility. The design included reuse of existing infrastructure, as well as several safety features to accommodate the chemicals required to clean the new membranes, while protecting the operators at work.
