We have been working with the Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District on improvements to the Hite Creek Water Quality Treatment Center since 2012. Our work began with a Regional Wastewater Facility Plan that set the stage for two major capital projects. The first involved hydraulic improvements to expand treatment capacity from 6 MGD to 9 MGD average daily flow to eliminate failing package plants and accommodate anticipated future growth. The resulting configuration will also accommodate a 24.0 MGD peak wet-weather flow, thereby eliminating SSOs upstream of the facility. Design on this $30M expansion was completed in 2018 and construction is now substantially complete. This project received the Project Excellence Award from the Kentucky-Tennessee Clean Water Professionals at the Water Professionals Conference in July. It was the only project to be recognized in both states! The project was chosen because it produced an annual cost savings of $430,000 through improved energy efficiency, biological nutrient removal, and on-site sludge dewatering.
