Phase II of the South Fourth Street Streetscape project was commissioned to continue public improvements to encourage private investment along the once thriving retail corridor. We were part of a project team tasked with preserving the concepts put forth in Phase I and implementing them efficiently by providing clear, detailed construction documents. Extensive utility coordination and concise plan sheets provided the needed clarity to proactively avoid conflicts in the field. In addition to streetscape improvements along the east side of South Fourth Street, the design included the reopening of Guthrie Street between Third and Fourth Streets. The project team developed a design for traditional pedestrian and vehicular infrastructure that can also easily be utilized as a public gathering space during events that involve street closure. Overall, the project includes new plantings, street furniture, lighting, granite curbing, ADA compliant sidewalks, and drainage modifications. The project team provided several alternatives to determine the best use of the available funding.
Project features included:
- Continuing Phase I concepts with different design team.
- ADA accessible route.
- Utility and TARC coordination.
- Stormwater modifications/improvements.
- Construction services.
