Antiquated storage tank farm updated with state-of-the-art storage system.

An existing storage tank farm required modifications and expansion for growing production demands, resulting in an 8,400-square-foot addition to the existing facility.  The modifications include a new indoor storage tank farm with an enclosed bulk chemical delivery area.  The new tank farm addition receives and stores 80,000 gallons of hazardous and flammable process liquids (resins and monomers) in eight stainless steel UL 142 aboveground storage tanks.

The new facility includes integrated secondary containment, distribution piping, unloading and transfer pumps, unloading area with canopy and containment, instrumentation and controls, overfill protection, static grounding, power distribution, and foam fire protection.  Sustainable design concepts were incorporated where possible and included elements of natural daylighting, waste heat recovery, improved building envelope performance, and automatic lighting controls.  The design included a steel structure with insulated metal panels to closely align with the existing structure aesthetics, improve thermal performance, and provide responsive material selections to a fast track construction schedule.
