A true community partnership has lifted the City of Lawrenceburg to the brink of something exciting and special in its downtown riverfront area. A new city park featuring a stage for concerts, expansive green spaces, a splash pad designed for kids and families, and public restrooms will transform a pair of surface parking areas into a vibrant space for all to enjoy.

The design team for the project — MKSK, MSA, Maxwell Construction, and Strand — is working to capture Lawrenceburg’s culture in the overall look of the stage area, which is inspired by the City’s unique history. The stage area will be used for weddings, meetings, and events including the successful “Music on the River” summer concert series on Thursday nights.

The Civic Park plan has been in the concept stage for a couple of years. Citizen involvement has been a key focal point to successfully moving the project to the design phase. The park is the latest effort toward invigorating downtown Lawrenceburg, which has seen substantial recent growth. The City is confident the park project will successfully supply the momentum to promote additional development by providing a key anchor attraction.

City officials are focused on having the best of both worlds, a “small-town feel, but with amenities typically enjoyed by a much larger city,” according to Mayor Mollaun. In addition to the park, the City is completing a fiber optics loop that will operate as a separate utility through Lawrenceburg Municipal Utilities (LMU) and provide citizens and businesses an option to their current providers. Also, the City is planning to make this outdoor area as secure as possible by completing upgrades through an expansion of a multi-camera city-wide security system.
