This project relocated refrigeration piping while minimizing plant downtime.

Existing ammonia refrigeration piping located in the utility service area of the plant serves process room evaporators throughout the facility. Company and safety standards dictated removing piping from the building.

System modifications were developed to relocate all piping on the roof of the plant and to serve the existing process room evaporators more efficiently. Structural analysis of the roof was also required because of the piping, valve groupings, and routing changes.

Project execution was scheduled to minimize plant and process downtimes. Process and instrumentation drawings for the entire ammonia system, serving the 160,000-square-foot facility, were updated to document the system changes. Information required for ammonia refrigeration process safety management (PSM) and management of change (MOC) documentation was prepared for use by plant personnel.
