This reconstruction project successfully achieved the City’s goal of creating a strong, accessible, multimodal connection between two key economic sectors of the city – Greenway Center Development area and the Downtown Business District. The new connection serves as an efficient transportation link for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, while integrating the community’s architectural themes to provide a cohesive “commerce corridor” between these two vitally important business districts. The project also delivers a unique, sustainable, and revitalized entry to Middleton’s growing downtown with the addition of a large, designated public gathering space and public market canopy for convenient commerce activities and community interaction, road reconstruction and widening, utility replacement and relocation, improved stormwater management, expanded lot and street parking for patrons, improved bicycle amenities, and expanded ADA-compliant sidewalks. Green infrastructure improvements included permeable clay brick paver terraces, porous asphalt parking lot, aesthetic LED street and pedestrian lighting powered by a new photovoltaic system, plantings, and an irrigation system using captured stormwater to water the 70 hanging baskets on light poles throughout the corridor.

Serving as active members of the City of Middleton’s Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) District Project Management Team (PMT), the project team prepared initial schematic design, final construction bid documents and specifications, and bidding- and construction-related services for this project.
