Elevated Storage Facility – Galena, IL

The City of Galena was in need of a new elevated storage facility to accommodate growth in their high zone Industrial Park. Galena hired us to design a new, 500,000-gallon, single-pedestal tank along with a new 1,100-gpm well facility. We were able to package the well drilling, well house construction, and elevated tank construction contracts into one specification book, resulting in cost savings for the City by consolidating design and construction administration.

We were involved with the elevated tank project from preliminary design through completion. Design of the elevated tank included alternative foundation designs required because of poor soils in the area. We assisted the City with selection of a paint system and provided ideas for paint schemes and lettering.

We also provided construction-related services during tank erection and painting. We monitored progress during installation of the H-pile and ring wall foundation, provided part-time observation during the welding and erection phase, and tracked daily activity during blasting and painting operations.

Following substantial completion, we prepared a punch list and provided support during filling and disinfection.

kEntucky American Water – Elevated Tank – Fayette and Owen County, KY

Since 2002, we have worked to improve water services for the residents of Fayette and Owen County. A recent Fayette County project included the design of approximately 2,000 linear feet of 24-inch water, 2-million gallon elevated storage tank, and calibration of a KY-Pipe 2000 model of the entire Fayette Urban County Government Service Area, which has an approximate population of 300,000. The current service area has an average day of 40 million gallons per day and a maximum of 70 million gallons per day. This modeling project and design was to increase storage capacity within the main service area, and provide time to start-pump storage facilities in case of a power loss at either of the two water treatment plants. We acquired the fee simple purchase of the tank site. We also completed a Phase 1 environment assessment and provided appraisal services for the tank site.
