Brownfield site before restoration
Re-Use Analysis of the
Continental Steel Superfund Site
–
Kokomo, IN
The City of
Kokomo received a Brownfield Pilot Program grant to study the
reuse of portions of a former steel mill (a Superfund site) in
the city. We were selected to assist the City in
determining the best feasible use of three areas of the site,
totaling over 150 acres. The project included public
involvement meetings, identification of suggested and potential
reuses, narrowing the reuses to five targeted alternatives, a
detailed study of the targeted reuses, and documentation in a
final report to the City. Many outside forces influenced
the feasibility of each reuse such that the analysis required us
to provide a multi-disciplined approach to identify the best
solutions for the community.
