Design AND CONSTRUCTION
We have designed roundabout projects for states,
counties, local municipalities and developers for the past
several years. Our experience includes everything
from single lane roundabouts in residential developments to multilane roundabouts in complex urban corridors.
We also provide construction services for several of our roundabout
projects.
Described below are a sampling of our design/construction roundabout projects.

STH 35 Interchange project –
Hudson, wi
The STH 35
interchange project converted an existing at-grade
intersection into a grade-separated interchange with
multilane roundabout ramp terminals. This was the first
full-diamond interchange utilizing roundabouts at the
ramp terminals in the state of Wisconsin. We prepared
the contract drawings and assisted in the design of the
ramp terminal roundabouts. We also modeled the
interchange using Paramics simulation software to
provide an illustration of interchange operations during
public involvement meetings. Extensive coordination with
local officials and the public was included to educate
residents about the roundabouts and to incorporate
the interchange into this rapidly developing area.
Additional services provided include right-of-way plat,
multi-use path, stormwater modeling and detention basin
design, and lighting.
highway 12 BYPASS PROJECT - SAUK
Co.
wi
The US 12 Bypass project will construct a relocated freeway approximately a quarter to one-half mile west of the existing alignment. The project involves
constructing 6 miles of a four-lane relocated freeway from IH 90/94 to the existing four-lane section of Highway 12
just north of Baraboo. The corridor will carry nearly
40,000 vehicles per day. The project includes three
interchanges: at Business 12, North Reedsburg Road, and Highway 33.
Roundabouts will be utilized extensively on the corridor,
with a total of ten planned at various
locations, and on the interchange ramp terminals. Construction is planned for the years
2009-2011. The total cost of this project is estimated
to be approximately $60 million. Services provided
include right-of-way plat, stormwater modeling and
detention basin design, lighting, and extensive public involvement.
Dekalb county, il
We were retained by Dekalb County (population 43,000) for the design of two
single-lane roundabouts at existing rural intersections
that had high crash histories. These projects included
the design of high speed approaches to the roundabouts
to slow traffic from 55 mph to 25 mph prior to the
roundabout. We worked closely with the county to assist
with the landscaping and lighting layouts of these
roundabouts to promote adequate sight lines at all high
speed approaches.
Cth id corridor - mount horeb, wi

We were retained by the Village of Mount Horeb
(population 6,600) for
design of the rapidly developing CTH ID corridor. The
project scope included a total of four multilane urban
roundabouts in a 1.1-mile corridor between the US 18/151
interchange and Perimeter Street. We provided all design
and construction engineering for
the $3.5 million project. One of the most
challenging elements of the project was the
construction staging and traffic control planning
required to build the project without road closures.
This was accomplished by building the roundabouts in
quarters and halves, with traffic carefully staged
during each construction phase.
The Village now has a unique and inviting main entry
way to the community.
