Whitewater Municipal Building –
Whitewater, WI
The expansion of the Municipal Building
includes multiple usages of building space including training
rooms, locker rooms, prisoner confinement areas, large meeting
rooms, radio and computer rooms, and single occupancy offices.
The variety of space usage creates many different heating and
cooling loads at a variety of times. The HVAC
design for the building incorporates an advanced design
featuring multiple roof top units, fan powered variable air
volume (VAV) boxes with hot water reheat coils, and perimeter
hot water baseboard heat. The system provides each space with
continuous ventilation while mixing room air with conditioned
air to adjust each zone temperature accordingly. The system
consists of the use of direct digital controls (DDC) for
communication between the equipment for energy management to
maximize overall system efficiency and accuracy.Additional
systems include fan coil units used for cooling zones with large
thermal loads and to provide fresh air to rooms that are
continuously occupied. Infra-red heat is utilized in the police
garage, and hot water unit heaters and a roof exhaust fan
provide heat and ventilation for the fire department garage.
