The North Park Street reconstruction project involved the reconstruction of one of the main arterials to the University of Wisconsin Madison campus and downtown area of the City of Madison. The project included widening the roadway from two to four lanes with the the addition of medians, turn lanes, and bike lanes.
The project also included replacement of the existing railroad viaduct and railroad tracks between Mills Street and and West Washington Avenue, and accommodation for a bike/ pedestrian trail. The new structure provides additional horizontal clearance and provisions to accommodate future expansion of the rail corridor, which may include a commuter rail and/or light rail. Other elements of the project included bike path and pedestrian bridge, stormwater pumping station, traffic signal design, landscaping, lighting, a detailed traffic control plan to accommodate staged construction, and construction engineering services.
