Water Supply

View our Water Supply Projects

Water supply is a major focus of our environmental division. We provide a complete range of supply, storage, pumping, distribution, treatment, security, and supervisory system control services, from planning phase, through design, and into construction. In addition, we offer comprehensive water system study and distribution system analyses, vulnerability assessments, water loss, distribution and water quality modeling, field investigations, loan and financing issues, plus other specialty studies.

Key Benefits

• Extensive experience with both large and small capacity systems.

• Expertise and experience in developing surface water and groundwater drinking water supplies.

• Extensive experience with rural and urban water systems.

• In addition, our specialization in many non-technical elements, such as public relations, permits, project financing, plus easement acquisitions.

Treatment
For many years, we have been involved in the treatment of water supplies for both conventional problems such as hardness or iron removal and unique problems such as volatile organic contaminants (VOCs). Surface water treatment experience has ranged from simple, slow sand filters to modern, multistage water treatment trains including coagulation, flocculation, rapid rate filtration, plus state-of-the-art membrane and reverse osmosis treatment units.

Distribution
Our water main work for clients has ranged from threading replacement mains through existing utility crowded streets to preparing plans for new subdivisions to allow critical development to proceed. Our projects have included everything from extension of new mains to complete planning, design, and construction administration of multimillion-dollar systems.

Storage
Throughout our history, we have completed numerous water storage facilities including tanks of different shapes, styles, and sizes. Elevated storage has consisted of the modern single-pedestal tank to the more simple standpipes. Tank sizes have ranged from 50,000 to 5,500,000 gallons. Reservoirs have included ground-level and below-grade concrete tanks ranging from 40,000 to 5,000,000 gallons.

Modeling
We have provided numerous communities with training on basic system hydraulics and detailed use of software.  We have extensive experience with many software models including WATER, KY-PIPE, WATERCADD, and EPANET (Boss EMS utilizes EPANET as its hydraulic calculator). Members of our staff routinely teach enrichment courses at the university level on water modeling.

Wells
We have been very active in the design and construction of both deep and shallow wells, including state agency-required well siting investigations and well head protection plans. Our involvement keeps our staff up-to-date on all aspects of these types of facilities in a number of different states.

Vulnerability Assessments and Emergency Response Plans

For decades, we have provided our clients with detailed analyses of critical system components, security provisions, SCADA systems, and system redundancy. The recent federal regulations resulting from the anti-terrorism laws have resulted in our staff receiving special training in Vulnerability Assessment (VA) and Emergency Response Plan (ERP) preparation. Our staff includes certified RAM-W assessors, experience and knowledge in use of VSAT (Vulnerability Self-Assessment Tool) and National Rural Water Association (NRWA) and Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA) formats.
