Waukesha’s recently completed Clean Water Plant Improvements Project received a State Finalist Award through the American Council of Engineering Companies of Wisconsin.

The unique, egg-shaped digester at the City’s wastewater treatment plant is an interesting, eye-catching design element, but it’s the functionality of the design that blends together innovation and performance. The digester is but one component of a $41.5 million renovation and expansion project at the facility which satisfies the “triple bottom line” –a measure of sustainability that includes financial, social, and environmental performance measures.

The result: The total economic impact of the process changes alone is expected to be an operational savings of more than $100,000 annually. “Waukesha’s Clean Water Plant project is undoubtedly a success story in our infrastructure history,” said Dr. Fred Abadi, director of public works for the City of Waukesha. “The technology and treatment processes designed by Strand will serve the needs of our community well into the future, while continuing to provide high quality wastewater treatment and protection for the environment.”
